There is a strange and macabre story coming out of Maryland tonight. According to news reports, and an update from the Charles County Sheriff's Office in Maryland, a mother was caught pushing her dead 3-year-old child in a playground swing.

Authorities arrived at the scene located at Wills Memorial Park,  at 500 St. Mary's Avenue around 6:55 a.m., Friday morning,  after receiving reports that the woman had been pushing the child in the swing for an unusually long period of time. It is unclear how the child died and at this time, medical examiners are performing an autopsy.

The mother's name has not been publicly released; however, authorities described her as a 24-year-old woman.

It is unknown whether the mother had lost touch with reality and was overcome by grief, or if she was involved in foul play that resulted in the child's death. At this time there are no charges pending against the mother.
