On July 5, 2013, George Zimmerman returns to the Seminole County courthouse for what may be one of the most significant days of testimony for the state of Florida in his second-degree murder trial. Zimmerman faces life in prison if convicted for the Feb. 26, 2012, shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin. During today's scheduled trial, the jury will hear live testimony from Martin's
Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin in court
mother Sybrina Fulton.

Regardless of how you feel about Zimmerman's guilt or innocence, all agree that the tragic loss of Fulton's son has left her devastated. Trial begins half an hour early today and will start at 8:30.

The state has had a tough time with the defense scoring multiple wins on every witness they have called to the stand. That might change today; however, as the jury (six women, five of whom are mothers) are expected to feel the emotional toll Trayvon's death has had on his mother, a heavy, cross-examination by the defense could backfire.

It is possible the defense will choose not to cross examine Sybrina Fulton, but instead call George Zimmerman's father to the stand as their first witness. While Judge Nelson ruled that the state's audio experts could not offer testimony indicating they believed the voice on the 911 tape calling for help was Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton could offer the testimony as a mother who knows her son's voice.

The defense could put George Zimmerman's father on the stand to counter her testimony and argue that it was Zimmerman crying for help.
