Watch hearing in George Zimmerman trial to exclude family members (videos)

Though some might have thought court would go smoothly if matters pertaining to the trial such as whether Trayvon Martin's parents could remain in court throughout the trial would be best handled before the actual start of the trial, that wasn't the case. On June 24, 2013, a hearing was held before opening statements in the George Zimmerman trial regarding which members of Trayvon Martin's and George Zimmerman's family should be allowed to remain in the courtroom.

The jury was not in the courtroom during the hearing that lasted approximately 20 minutes. Judge Nelson has proved that she is no-nonsense and will not be run in circles by any strategies anyone could come up with to throw a monkey wrench in the proceedings.

She has stated the George Zimmerman trial would last between 2 and 4 weeks, and with her "let's get to work" attitude, I think this trial will meet her deadline.

Trayvon Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump was asked to leave the courtroom as he is a witness in the case. Trayvon Martin's parents, though witnesses on the list, were able to remain.
