the Feb. 26, 2012, shooting death of unarmed, teenager Trayvon Martin (17). The case has sparked civil rights debates and protests nationwide. Zimmerman wasn't arrested for the crime until 44 days following the incident.

The prosecution has asked many questions regarding how much pretrial publicity the potential jurors are familiar with. They also want to ensure they select jurors who do not want to be selected for jury duty for the sole purpose of swaying the verdict a particular way; but rather will put away any preconceived ideas or notions and will listen to all the evidence in the trial and deliberate accordingly. Other concerns are potential jurors who want to be on the case solely for the publicity aspect. As the case has gained worldwide notoriety, some potential jurors may wish to serve so they may write books or participate in potential, future movie deals or other media activities.

More than 100 people have been summoned; however, only 30 will be selected to move forward with the vetting process in order to reach the final jury.
